An Auxiliary Liver Transplant is a specialized procedure where a portion of a donor liver is transplanted into a recipient without removing their existing liver. This technique is mainly used for patients with acute liver failure who have a chance of liver recovery. If the patient’s liver regenerates and resumes normal function, immunosuppressive therapy can be discontinued, and the transplanted liver portion may shrink or be removed later.
