Auxiliary Liver Transplantation is performed in patients where the native liver has the potential to recover over time, such as in acute liver failure or metabolic liver diseases. Instead of removing the entire liver, a portion of a healthy donor’s liver is transplanted alongside the patient's own liver. If the native liver recovers, the transplanted liver can shrink or be removed. This procedure is beneficial for conditions like acute liver failure due to viral hepatitis or drug toxicity.
