Thoracic Oncosurgery is a specialized branch of surgical oncology that focuses on the diagnosis and surgical treatment of cancers affecting the organs within the thoracic (chest) cavity. This includes lung cancer, esophageal cancer, mediastinal tumors, thymic tumors, and chest wall malignancies. Thoracic oncosurgeons perform complex procedures such as lobectomy (removal of a lung lobe), pneumonectomy (complete lung removal), esophagectomy (esophageal removal), and mediastinal tumor excision. Advanced surgical techniques like minimally invasive video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) and robotic-assisted thoracic surgery (RATS) allow for greater precision, faster recovery, and reduced post-operative complications.
