Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt

TIPS is a minimally invasive procedure performed to treat portal hypertension, a condition caused by liver cirrhosis or other liver diseases. A stent is placed inside the liver to create a pathway between the portal and hepatic veins, reducing pressure and preventing complications such as variceal bleeding and ascites. The procedure is performed under image guidance using a catheter inserted through the neck vein (jugular vein). Recovery is usually quick, but patients require regular monitoring.
